Marc Cohn, Vice Chair 14 John Chaplik 15 Bernard Pettingill 16 Mark Veil 17 18 Also in attendance: Allan Owens, Finance Administrator /Staff Liaison 19 Grace Hughes, Administrative Specialist III 20 21 IL ELECTION OF OFFICERS 22 MQTION 23 Nomination of Harvey Goldberg as Chair, seconded and carried unanimously, 5-0. 24 MOTION 25 Nomination of L. Marc Cohn as Vice Chair, seconded and carried unanimously, 5-0. 26 27 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 28 MOTION 29 Motion made for approval of the July 26, 2007 minutes, seconded and carried unanimously, 5-0. 30 MOTION 31 Motion made for approval of the August 23, 2007 minutes, seconded and carried unanimously, 32 5-0. 33 34 IV. ITEMS BY STAFF LIAISON 35 Allan Owens, Finance Administrator, introduced a video presented by the Florida League of 36 Cities featuring Mike Sittig, Executive Director, in which he describes the proposed Resolution 37 changing how property taxes are levied in Florida. 38 • Discussion ensued regarding the possible impact to municipalities should the proposed 39 Resolution pass in the January 29, 2008 election. 40 • The preliminary estimate of taxable values should be published June 1, 2008. 41 • Discussion ensued regarding Scripps and Max Planck being tax exempt and the impact 42 this will have on the tax rolls. 43 BUDGET OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEETING PAGE 01.24.08 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 Allan Owens, Finance Administrator, projected the budget calendar for the coming year: • February 26 Distribute budget packages to departments • April Department budget review • May BOC review • July 2 Finalize numbers • July 17 Final presentation to Council • August 28 Finalize budget • September Two public hearings.
