Renovation Recap
In the Beginning…
There was rain – lots and lots of rain!
A blessing in disguise, the flooded course allowed the contractors to see
where many poor drainage areas existed.
Fairways and rough were “burned” off to allow for new grassing.
Irrigation
Mainline completed first, followed by greens’ loops, and finally
fairway/tee lateral irrigation lines.
Irrigation contractor also installed new controller pads and connected
power to the controllers.
Greens – Stripping & Shaping
Site visit from USGA determined that we needed to “scoop” the top
three inches of soil from the greens.
Portions of greens with previously steep slopes were rebuilt and shaped
to accommodate the naturally quicker TifEagle green speeds and to
create more pin-able area.
Greens – Planting & Grow-in
TifEagle sprigs were planted on the greens on July 23rd & 24th.
Constant attention and nurturing by maintenance staff was/still is
needed for sprigs to mature appropriately.
Drainage
Numerous new drainage basins have been installed-improved existing
Truckloads of dirt/fill have been added to areas with poor drainage.
Bunkers
Several new bunkers were strategically placed throughout the course.
Better golfers will have to think their way around the course more, and
higher handicap golfers will potentially be saved by some bunkers.
Fairways, Tees, & Green Surrounds
Prep-work
Fairways and green surrounds were burned, tilled, & shaped according
to the architects’ plans.
Over 900 truckloads of fill were used on the fairways
Tees were burned, shaped, and laser-leveled.
Fairways, Tees & Green Surrounds
Planting & Grow-in
Fairways, tees, and green surrounds are made up of Celebration grass.
Celebration sprigs were used on tee tops and throughout fairways.
Celebration sod was used on tee slopes, green surrounds, and other steep-sloping areas to
prevent washouts from rain.
Final sprigs and sod were planted on September 10.
Fairways, Tees & Green Surrounds
Planting & Grow-in
Grassing Pictures as of September 20, 2013:
Landscaping and Coquina
Landscaping – Many sabal palms, pines, oaks and other native
plantings have been installed to give some holes a more defined look.
Coquina – A new coquina bed between holes 14 & 16 creates a nice look
with functionality in a previously wet, mucky area.
